Music Now Playing: 'Conquest' By Vangelis speaker.gif - 1.64 K

I collect MIDI files. In fact, I've got thousands of the damn things. So many in fact, that I've dedicated an 850 Meg hard disk to them. I've finally done something about it - see Stop Press below!!)

However, there are MIDI files and there are MIDI files. No disrespect to the authors who have probably toiled for hours on their masterpieces, but the majority are complete garbage - even though I couldn't produce a decent version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star if I spent six months trying! Well, not quite true any more - I've done something about that too - judge for yourself below!

On the other hand, some are absolutely brilliant. Well chosen voices, excellent composition and faithful reproduction of the original score all add up to an incredibly good professional sounding MIDI file.

One example is Van Halen's 'Jump'. Two other favourites of mine are Toto's 'Africa', and Seal's 'Crazy' - both included in my all-time favourite list below. Believe me, these files are as good as they get, and sound brilliant on a Soundblaster AWE-32. If you have one, (or a decent wavetable sound card), and you haven't got these files, download them - you won't be sorry...

INTRODUCING.....

MIDICOMP V1.0 - my latest programming creation, dedicated to those of you out there, who like me, have too many MIDI files taking up far too much hard disk space, but wouldn't dream of deleting a single one from your prized collection.

Now, you can reclaim 75% or more of that hard disk space and still keep every single one of them! MIDICOMP places them all in a compressed archive format but still lets you listen to them or pull them out whenever they are needed. With the ability to create new archives, add to them and delete MIDI files from them, MIDICOMP is a useful utility to add to your collection.

It's FREE to download, so help yourself...

PLEASE NOTE that this version of MIDICOMP has only been tested on true Soundblaster 16 and AWE 32 sound cards. It has not been tested on others, so although it may work, I can't guarantee it.

A MIDI File Composed By Me!

Next, the chance to slag off one of my MIDI compositions for a change! At long last I am pleased to announce that I've actually produced a MIDI file of my own. Yes, you read correctly, my very first ever MIDI file with a beginning, a middle AND an end! It's called November and it's a bit of an upbeat dance-like sort of... oh what the heck, download the .ZIP (all 2K of it) and judge for yourself.

OK, I'll risk a quick download!

Comments welcome via E-mail as long as they aren't too obscene!

Genesis MIDI Files

I've always been a big Genesis fan, (especially the early Selling England, Nursery Cryme, Trick Of The Tail, Wind & Wuthering period), and have a good selection of Genesis MIDI files. However, the quality of the files is poor and some barely recognisable as what they are meant to be. But, I've just got hold of four new files, three of which are incredibly good and faithful to the originals (well as much as an AWE32 can be anyway)!

These files are 'Mad Man Moon' from the 1976 album A Trick Of The Tail, 'One For The Vine' from the 1976 album Wind & Wuthering, and an excellent 20 minute version of the medley from 'Three Sides Live', including sections of Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and many other albums. The medley track is a whopping 276K, but don't worry it zips down to 138K and it's really worth the download time!

If you are a Genesis fan and have a decent sound card, these files are a must!

Actually, all three sound as if they have been put together by the same person. Whoever it is, he/she has my thanks and deepest admiration - they really should be congratulated on an excellent job. Does anyone know who produced these files? How do you find out? I'd love to e-mail whoever it is and thank them personally.

If you have any MIDI files as good as these, please send them to me via E-Mail and I'll make them available to others. There are a lot of good MIDI sites on the net, most with an incredibly wide range of MIDI files, but unfortunately few filter out the dross, preferring to go for quantity rather than quality. Nine out of ten files downloaded are usually sub-standard - not a problem if you are lucky enough to live in a part of the world with free local telephone calls, but bad news if you live somewhere like here in the UK where you have to keep your eye on the clock. (BT make enough money out of me...)

So, I aim to make this site THE premier site for MIDI files of excellence. Some files will be quite big, but you won't have to worry about your time being wasted as they will all have been fully tested for Soundblaster AWE-32, (the card I have), and zipped up tight as they will go.

Please E-Mail me with your comments on any of the files you download...
