The second issue of the revamped Buyers Guide contains a number of
articles, which will hopefully both inform and guide various aspects
of your practice. We trust that there will be something of interest
for all health care professionals working in the field of respiratory
medicine.
In this issue the number of topics covered has been extended with an
in depth review, divided into three parts, on noninvasive blood gas
measurements. This is a timely review article, particularly since
there is an ever increasing range of pulse oximeters available and
the frequency with which they are being utilized in both primary and
secondary health care settings. Hopefully, this article will help
direct both correct use and appropriate application. In addition, the
review also covers in detail the background to and application of
transcutaneous measurements, an often-neglected noninvasive blood gas
measurement. Other articles include the subject of when and how to
make measurements of respiratory muscle function, an approach to
controlling the transmission of infection in pulmonary function
laboratories and a summary of procedures that can be performed
bronchscopically. In addition, there is an updated article on
spirometers and important information regarding the widely used peak
expiratory flow meters.
The other section of the Buyers Guide is equally important and
provides information on the range of products available (grouped into
common areas) from manufacturers. We hope that this will become an
even more comprehensive listing in the future as other manufacturers
provide information. We would also like to provide a more in depth
review of new products as well as providing readers with a guide to
published evaluation of products and equipment. Correspondence with
manufacturers is therefore both encouraged and welcomed. To achieve a
publication, which is invaluable to everyone and starts to direct
best practice requires a partnership approach.
The Buyer's Guide has been compiled by carefully collating information from companies through Europe and beyond. All companies have completed a word description of their products and services to give an indication of the types of products available. This information has then been split into 3 sections: Product Classification Index, Company Classification Index, and New Products section.
In order to locate a specific product or product area, first identify the appropriate product categorgy in the Product Classification Index, and find the product you require. Then refer to the Page number listed below the company's product information, to retrieve the relevant company contact details from the Company Classification Index.
The Buyer's Guide is indexed alphabetically by company name, and provides an easy method of finding out the contact details of hundreds of companies in the respiratory field.
This section contains company advertisements of the most up-to-date and newly released products around the time of publication.
The Buyer's Guide is also available on-line, so that it can be easily accessed in a different and useful format.
