Melissa Joan Hart: Will Clarissa Head to CBS? She Tells All!

In the May 1994 issue of TEEN BEAT we told you all about Melissa's paticipation in the video Clarissa Explains It All: Dating. We even gave you all the chance to win a copy! And the reason we knew the video was something you'd want to have is because we attended a special screening at New York City's Planet Hollywood with Melissa herself as host! And of course, while we had her there, we grilled Melissa about stuff we figured you'd want to know -- including the deal on her show, Clarissa Explains It All, going to network TV! Here's what she told us...

TEEN BEAT: When CBS airs the pilot episode of Clarissa Explains It All, what'll happen?

MELISSA: Clarissa gets an intership at the New York Daily Post and her parents let her move to New York. She's actually working on the newspaper instead of going to college -- she takes a few classes but that's about it.

TEEN BEAT: Will the pilot be filmed in California?

MELISSA: No, in New York, which is good because I can stay with my family.

TEEN BEAT: What other projects would you like to do someday?

MELISSA: I would eventually like to do movies, maybe direct.

TEEN BEAT: How will the show change when it's on CBS?

MELISSA: I'm the only cast member moving onto the new show. The other ones will have guest appearances. Clarissa's going to move in with her grandma. She's going to have the editors and the other interns at the New York Daily Post to work with.

TEEN BEAT: Have they cast the other roles yet?

MELISSA: They're doing it right now.

TEEN BEAT: Is there anyone in particular you'd like to see cast with you?

MELISSA: There is one person for the role of the grandmother that I'd like to work with. I did a play with her and she's been in Fried Green Tomatoes. Her name is Lois Smith. I suggested her to the executive producer.

TEEN BEAT: Will Clarissa have a boyfriend in the pilot?

MELISSA: Yes, there will be one kid who likes her and one that's supposed to be similar to Ferguson -- kind of nerdy and kind of stuck on himself. I'm not sure yet but I think Clarissa's going to like the geek, the nerd.

TEEN BEAT: Do you have a boyfriend?

MELISSA: Yes I do.

TEEN BEAT: Does he act?

MELISSA: No, he's in college right now. He just started.

TEEN BEAT: When you talk about dating and sibling rivalry and stuff on your show, does any of it come from your own experiences?

MELISSA: Some of it does. It's a little of both. I have four sisters and one brother. My brother isn't old enough to be a pain yet! But as far as dating, I guess it does!

TEEN BEAT: What are your future plans?

MELISSA: I want to go to college, probably in New York City. I want to study English.

Also, other info given in the magazine gives Melissa's birthday as April 18. And based on her saying that she's 17 now I'd say exactly its April 18, 1976. Any people who want to write to MJH? Teen Beat say write to:
