Seventeen blurb
The following paragraph appeared in the ``Talent'' section (page 57)
of the Jul 91 Seventeen magazine.
The accompanying picture is a close-up of
Melissa sitting with her elbows on her kees
and her chin in her hands,
looking up at the camera and smiling (of course).
She's dressed in an outfit from ``School Picutre'' (#102):
the black macrame shawl-like sweater and polka-dotted leggings
with the ubiqitous big, black analog watch on her left wrist.
Ever since Ferris Bueller's Day Off,
there've been a bunch of TV shows
about smart-aleck-guys-with-computers.
What we like about Nickelodeon's new series
Clarissa Explains It All is
(1) she's female,
(2) she's not obnoxiously brainy,
just a very smart fifteen-year-old,
(3) her favorite band is They Might Be Giants,
(4) she's stylin' in her ultrahip clothes,
and (5) she loves to make lists of things she likes.
``Clarissa is cool
because she doesn't worry about peer pressure,''
says actress Melissa Joan Hart (right)
of her character.
``She sets her own trends and doesn't care what anyone says.
I'd like to be like that.''
Wouldn't we all?
Sundays, 1:30 and 6:00 P.M.
