Yes, this small resort town on the South-Wales coast has 14
15 16 17 pubs (sorry, I keep on
remembering more!), not all of them to it's credit, plus three or
four private members clubs and a bar in the De-Valence Pavilion.
All these pubs have been tried and tested over a 15 year period -
some more than others! Last updated by a visit in 1997!
Bush, St Georges Street - Bass - a long time favourite set in the wall adjacent to the five arches in the town centre which was spoilt by going upmarket.
Buccaneer, St Julian Street - Bass - features live music and an extraordinary matchbox and lighter collection.
Crown, Lower Frog Street - Courage - Originally a favourite, it underwent a 4 or 5 year refurb and re-opened to a restricted clientele (ie "We only serve couples and families" ----- "But we're the seven Karachi twins!")
Five Arches Tavern, St Georges Street - Bass - no real ale, posh lounge only, mostly for diners.
Green Man, St Johns Hill - Bass - no real ale, drunken landlord when last visited, everything the same price (ie " Whats four 7's?" ---- " er...28!?!" ---- " Okay, thats two pounds 80, please"
Hope and Anchor, St Julians Street - Bass - Pool table in the off season, close to harbour but no real ale.
Lamb, High Street - Bass - upmarket, restricted clientele.
Lifeboat Tavern, Tudor Square - Tetley - downmarket! Loud rock jukebox, noisy and aggressive.
Lord Nelson, The Norton - Bass - basement pub with glass panel in floor and pool table. Reputed to be gay bar (by my mate Bobby!).
Normandie, Upper Frog Street - Bass - Guest Real ales, posh lounge/ restaurant, less posh lounge and large childrens room with pool table.
Prince of Wales, Nelsons Walk - Bass - good food, no real ales. Top notch restaurant upstairs.
Sun, High Street - Bass - Trendies, loud music, no real ale.
Tenby House Hotel, Tudor Square - Tetley/Bass - Large lounge with occasional live music and trendies, bar side with pool table allows kids. Best Tetleys in town!
Three Mariners, St. Georges Street - Bass - Locals pub, occasional barbeques.
White Hart, The Norton - Bass? - only a single visit was enough!
Another Pub, Warren Street - Courage - hidden down the road to the railway station. Large, refurbed, quiet, couples pub the name of which escapes me.
