Pomeranian Dogs - Film and television

I am endebted to Carolyn Whittemore and Melissa Pellegrin at:

for their assistance with this page. We know of the following films and television programmes which have Poms in them - let us know of any others.

This recent Gus van Sant film starred Nichole Kidman as a TV weather girl on the make. She is given a Pom by her husband, played by Matt Dillon. In the film the Pom is called Walter and has a substantial rôle - the weather girl loves the dog rather more than her husband. The dog is duly credited in the titles as Misha. I couldn't recommend this film for kids incidentally.

Starring Jim Carey. Jeff Daniels is feeding dogs, which have just been groomed, food which is intended for humans. He is driving a van, and as he calls out the order a dogs comes up to the front to claim the sandwich. He gives out hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and so on, and when it comes to the foot-long hotdog he says, "Who has the foot-long". A Pomeranian comes out to claim it. Jeff tells the little orange Pom: "In your dreams, buddy".

With Robin Givens. The Godfather of the film loves his orange Pom and carries the little dog throughout the movie. Unfortunately the dog means an untimely end when someone opens a door next to where the Pom was standing. Needless to say, the Godfather takes the matter badly.

In a recent episode of this cult TV series, an old woman owns an orange Pom. A man with mystic powers can see the future, and sees the woman dead. The Pom, well let's just say the dog was hungry. At the end of the show Scully takes the little guy in and they show her snuggled on the couch with it. Who knows, maybe the little Pom will return.

Fran Drescher of the TV show "The Nanny" in the US owns a Pomeranian called Chester. If you rent the movie "Cadillac Man" with Robin Williams and Tim Robbins, you will see Chester in prime form.
