Today's walk: Humphrey Head (Wainwright's Outlying Fells p66)

Kents Bank railway station the starting point of the walk

the parapet beside the railway with Humphrey Head ahead

since AW's book in 1974 the mud flats have been replaced by grass - Arnside Knott in the distance

after leaving the railway the route is very marshy in places - looking back to Grange-Over-Sands

Wyke House - from here our local friend Jim warned us that AW's route is blocked by barbed wire ..

.. so we turned inland through this gate following the Cumbrian Coastal Way ..

.. and regained the woodland path over this half hidden stile

on the woodland path on the east side of Humphrey Head

looking back towards the wood

Humphrey Head Point

the western cliffs of Humphrey Head from the point

Humphrey Head from the point with Grange-Over-Sands to its right

zooming in along the eastern foot of Humphrey Head to Grange-Over-Sands

on the sands beyond the point

windswept trees on the ridge of Humphrey Head

on the ridge looking back towards the point ..

.. and looking out over Morecambe Bay

Arnside Knott from the ridge

view west from the ridge

approaching the trig point on Humphrey Head

another windblown tree near the summit

a great hole through the limestone above the western cliffs

looking north along the cliffs from above the hole

looking back south towards the trig point from slightly higher ground to the north

looking west along the curving sea defences
