MANAGING SAFELY WITH AUDITING

2000 Programme : March 20-24, July 3-7, December 4-8

Based on KMT's proven HSE Management System Auditing course, this five-day programme has been accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This accreditation means that participants are will benefit not only by learning from KMT's expertise in teaching how to audit an HSE Management System, but also by receiving an IOSH "Managing Safely with Auditing" Certificate, upon successful completion of the course.

The course covers risk management, management system audit, and principles of Occupational Safety and Health; the tutorials are mixed with a practical case study exercise which requires participants to carry out an entire Audit, using OHSAS 18001 as the reference framework. KMT's case study is a proven learning vehicle, using a realistic simulation enhanced by effective role play, which has achieved considerable success in many different countries and cultures over the last seven years.

Participants will not only expand the knowledge of how Occupational Safety and Health management fits into the business management framework, but will also develop the skills and techniques necessary to carry out a management system audit.

THE CONTROL AND INVESTIGATION OF FRAUD

2000 Programme : March 27-29, October 16-18

As the incidence of fraud appears to continue to spiral upwards (recent statistics indicate that corporate fraud in the UK is running at £25 million a day!) and the demand for action in strengthening control increases, so the need grows both to know where to look and how to develop investigative skills.

This three-day residential course will enable participants to recognise and understand the risks from fraud in their own organizations and to develop practical and appropriate procedures for its investigation and control. The course will enable participants to acquire and develop skills:

(a) to deal with the organisation's potential exposure to fraud and avoidable loss,
(b) to investigate and report on occurrences of fraud and related irregularities, and
(c) to advise management on how to create an appropriate control framework for preventing and controlling fraud.

THE AUDIT REPORT

2000 Programme : March 9-10, October 12-13

This two-day course concentrates on producing an audit report in such a way that it has an optimum chance of effecting the desired result. Even if the audit has concluded that management can be assured that the auditee's area of the organization is "being well managed" or "under effective control", the audit report must reflect the professional work which supports this conclusion. In those situations where the auditor's opinion is "less than satisfactory", the audit report is the key medium available to the auditor to convince senior line management that action must be taken for the benefit of the whole organisation. An ineffective audit report will waste the previous 80% of total resources spent on the audit - however competently and professionally the work was carried out. This course aims to ensure every report is a success. Participants will perform each stage of the creation of a report up to drafting the executive summary.

EFFECTIVE REVIEW OF INTERNAL CONTROL

2000 Programme : "What to do" February 29, May 16, September 7 and "How to do it" March 13-15, May 30-June 1, September 18-20

These linked courses concentrate on the skills needed to implement a key requirement of "The Turnbull Report" and the title of the courses is an expression used in the report. The one day course describes what an organisation should be doing to comply with best practice and concentrates on the three main stages of the Review Process. The three day course examines in more detail the same topics and process. Learning "how to" is achieved by each participant carrying out the main practical steps of a review, using a realistic and proven case study.
