REGISTRATIONS:
All new patients are offered an opportunity to see the Practice Nurses before registering. This provides a valuable chance to not only get to grips straight away with any ongoing problems, but also to discover any unrealised problems. We therefore do not register anybody fully until this medical has been undertaken.
The Link Surgery runs specific Asthma Clinics. If you feel that you may be asthmatic, or have a family history of this, please discuss with the Dr. or Nurse Practitioner.
We recommend you read the special leaflet produced by the Surgery about Asthma.
Mothers now have a wide choice of maternity care. These are described in the special leaflet produced by the Surgery, which we recommend all newly pregnant ladies read to help decide the best option for them.
ANTE NATAL CLINICS:
These are held separately by the Doctor and Midwives. We try to alternate appointments between them so that you get to know all of the team. The doctor does not hold clinics at any specific time, but sees patients during the normal surgery times. This gives mothers much greater flexibility and freedom of choice as to when they can attend and so arrange alternative surveillance for their other children. Fathers are welcome and encouraged to attend as well.
The Midwives hold an ante-natal clinic every Wednesday from 2.30pm onwards. The two Midwives also alternate to ensure the mother gets to know both midwives.
FAMILY PLANNING:
These appointments are provided as part of the normal surgery consultations by the Dr., or as a specific clinically the Nurse Practitioner. Coils are fitted (preferably during your period) during a special session on a Wednesday afternoon.
CERVICAL SMEARS:
We encourage all women to have a smear test every five years and we will normally send you a reminder. If your test is overdue and you have not heard yet, please ask for an appointment (the ideal time for a smear is between the 10 - 15th day of your cycle), stating that it is for a smear test so that appropriate time and equipment can be arranged.
ROUTINE IMMUNISATIONS:
TETANUS - Everyone should be covered. If you have not had a total of 5 injections, (including the four in childhood aged 2months-5yrs) please see the Practice Nurses.
POLIO - Booster immunisations are recommended every 10 years, especially if travelling abroad or are attending a baby who is receiving its routine polio immunisations.
TRAVEL VACCINATIONS:
The recommended vaccines vary depending on the country being visited. These recommendations also change virtually day by day. We therefore suggest you discuss requirements with the Nurse Practitioner, who always has an up-to-date schedule.
MINOR OPERATIONS:
These are held in the Surgery to avoid unnecessary time and journeys to the hospital. Please consult your doctor about this.
SERVICES NOT AVAILABLE ON THE N.H.S.:
These include Private Certificates for employers; Passport, Shotgun and Private Insurance countersignatures. Pre-employment, Insurance, Driving and Sports Medicals are by appointment out of the Doctors normal surgery hours and a fee will be charged. Ask at Reception for details.

If you change your address, please let us know, together with any new telephone number. If you move out of our area, you MUST register with a Doctor who covers your new area, as we will not be able to attend you.
