jaw - the part of the skull
that frames the mouth
(Old French joue)

from Body of Love

V.

Will I still wonder
at hummingbird wings
that vibrate into shadows
when she has become as familiar to me
as the tree that draws her?

Will I feel
the vibration in my heart
when your fingers flutter
down my spine

my quickening joy when you
open the door after being away

when this life together
is what we expect?

I want to know

if the hummingbird
who hovers over my head each morning
during breakfast on the patio
will still be a miracle to me in ten years.

if your body warm with sleep
pressed close against my back after
the alarm has rung and been turned off

if the sound of your laugh
deep and full

if the shape of your jaw

the scent of your

the curve...
