THE CROQUET RANKING LISTS
Although International Rules Association Croquet is played all over the world, it is largely an amateur sport.
In the major playing nations there are competitions to enter nearly every day
but most of a local or minor nature. Some competitions do attract a world wide entry
and this allows the World Croquet Federation the opportunity to assess one player
against the grading of another.
Therefore the WCF system does not mirror thre system adopted by the Tennis A.T.P. tour
where points are awarded for how far a competitor gets in a competition.
The Croquet system awards points for wins and deducts for losses dependent upon
which opponent it was against. In this way a picture of ability is made up in which all
players in the world can be reasonably assessed, without necessarily having played each other.
The system is recognised as not being perfect, but it is the only one we have until
a world tour is formed.
