Space Shuttle

I had been given a big build up to this one. I was aware that it was the flagship model for a number of years and that it was a large set with two motors and fibre optics. It must be brilliant! Well... The main motor controls the fibre optics, the cargo bay doors, and the robot arm (swivel and up/down) and the micro motor opens the satellite solar panels. You can also lower and raise the undercarriage and control the the aerofoils. On the minus side, there are a few places where rubber bands are used rather than cogs which I have found tend to slip, eg the bands driving the fibre optic unit slip for most of the time and sometimes grip if you give them a helping hand. Overall it is quite a technical model but I'm not too sure about the look. Given a choice between this on the Barcode truck ( 8479 ), I would recommend the latter every time.

Score: 8/10
Pieces: 1290-1366?
