Rochdale Round Table's Work in the Borough
| Rochdale Round Table is involved with many
fund raising projects throughout the year, however it isn't always about raising cash.
Sometimes manpower is all it takes. We have involvement with the Hospice in Rochdale helping them organise
their own fund-raising events. We regularly help on the Rota for the Newspaper for the
blind, where a few of us get together to record a reading of the local paper and send out
copies of the tape to all the local registered blind people.Every Christmas we run a
"Can Collection" where we collect food parcels by street collections which are
redistributed to the Elderly and Needy in the Town. Each year the Chairman nominates one or more causes for us to
promote and in previous years we have raised nearly £16,000 to buy a Kidney Dialysis
machine for our local hospital. We raise the money by several different ways, we have Golf
Days, Sportsman's Dinners, Sponsored swimming competitions and the most successful an Abseil Challenge. The Town Hall Clock in Rochdale is over 150ft high and we asked
local people to take part in a Sponsored Abseil down the Clock to raise funds for the
Kidney Unit. This event raised nearly £9,000 which was a fantastic effort from all who
took part. We have also just run another world famous "Ompah Night " a wine tasting evening with a difference, 6 wines 6 toasts and lots and lots of fun, raising over a £1,000 in the process If you want to find out more or would like to help us please contact Jonathan Whitworth |
